Dear Praying Friends~As I prepare to write this post for the final week of 2023, I ask you one question: What are your God-sized dreams for 2024? I can tell you that this morning as I prayed the dream that God gave me, I felt filled with renewed hope. That is the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit. Many in the prayer networks where I fellowship have expressed great anticipation for what God is going to do in 2024. I know that the world is weary right now and we truly need a fresh infilling of God’s hope. Let’s pray especially for our brothers and sisters everywhere remembering especially the persecuted Church: Lord, Please fill our brothers and sisters who are in persecution’s way with a renewed hope and peace. Give them a God “hug” today, assuring them that they are not forgotten. And let’s keep praying this week: SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN! This week, we will be prompted in prayer by some of the Christian songs of the season. ~Blessings, Gina
Announcements: Psalm 91 Prayer: We’ve had a daily 15-minute prayer call, 8-8:15am Mountain Time, since March 14, 2020. Every morning, we begin by reading Psalm 91 with praying friends from several states. Then we take time to pray as the Holy Spirit directs us. Some come to pray aloud and some come to listen silently and “soak” in what the Holy Spirit is doing. If you are interested in joining us, you can find details here.
A Day of Prayer and Fasting for Your City, My City, and the World: Thursday, January 11, 2024; join us in whatever way you are able. Consider taking a few moments with praying family and friends to pray for salvation for your city and all across the world. We will be using the January Prayer Guide, Do It Again, Lord, from One Cry, as our suggested prayer prompts. This prayer guide focuses on renewed hope that the Lord will do another great move of awakening in our day. You can download the prayer guide here.
Now, let’s pray on! Note: The information on the Christmas Carols is adapted from the Crosswalk article, 15 Christmas Carols That Give Worship to Jesus
Monday, December 25, 2023: Read Psalm 98
Prayer Pointer: “Joy to the World” is a song all about worship. It was written in 1719 by Isaac Watts, who was also responsible for writing hundreds of hymns, many of which are still sung in churches around the world. Interestingly, “Joy to the World” was not originally written as a Christmas song but was simply a meditation on Psalm 98.
Prayer “Fuel”: Based on the lyrics of Joy to the World: Lord, You HAVE COME and You DO REIGN. When I get discouraged in waiting, help me to remember that You have already come to bring salvation to a weary, waiting world. Help me to declare the Good News of Your coming to those that I know. (add your own prayers) SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN!
Think/Journal/Apply: Consider the lyrics of Joy to the World and journal what the Lord is speaking.

Tuesday, December 26, 2023: Read Matthew 1:18 & Luke 2:7
Prayer Pointer: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” was originally written by Charles Wesley (who also authored over 6,000 more hymns!) in 1739 and was later adapted by evangelist George Whitfield. Beautiful expressions regarding the mystery of Jesus the God-Man abound in this song: “Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate Deity!” We are urged to “Join the triumph of the skies, with the angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” and “Glory to the newborn King!”
Prayer “Fuel”: Based on the lyrics of Hark! the Herald Angels Sing: Lord, may all the earth raise a joyful song in celebration of Your birthday. Let our songs join with those of the angels. Thank You for coming to reconcile mankind to God. May many come to the saving knowledge of Jesus during this holy season. (add your own prayers) SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN!
Think/Journal/Apply: Consider the lyrics of Hark! the Herald Angels Sing and journal what the Lord is speaking.

Wednesday, December 27, 2023: Read Haggai 2:7
Prayer Pointer: “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” was written by Charles Wesley in 1744 after considering the plight of orphans in his community in light of Haggai 2:7. The hymn was popularized when Charles Spurgeon mentioned it in a Christmas sermon in 1855. The hymn adores Jesus as the one who was “born to set thy people free” and who is “the joy of every longing heart.”
Prayer “Fuel”: Based on the lyrics of Come Thou Long Expected Jesus: Lord, thank You for coming to set us free from our fears and our sins. Help us to find our true rest in You. You are the hope for the whole earth. Let Your people, Israel, acknowledge You as Messiah. You are the joy of our longing hearts. Help us to think about this every day. (add your own prayers) SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN!

Thursday, December 28, 2023: Read Isaiah 40:31
Prayer Pointer: “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” was written by a preacher struggling with depression and news of wars close by and far away. His poem–only later turned into a song–was an attempt to redirect the hearts of believers towards the “golden” things of God even in the midst of the “weary world.”
Prayer “Fuel”: Based on the lyrics of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear: Lord, we resonate in 2023 with the weary preacher who wrote this poem. We hear of wars and rumors of wars almost daily and You know that it can make our hearts heavy. Holy Spirit, please keep redirecting our weary hearts back to the Good News. Help us to let our lights shine in the darkness. (add your own prayers)SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN!
Think/Journal/Apply: Consider the lyrics of It Came Upon a Midnight Clear and journal what the Lord is speaking.

Friday, December 29, 2023: Read John 3:16
Prayer Pointer: “Angels We Have Heard on High” is an invitation to join angels, shepherds, Mary and Joseph in giving glory to “Christ the Lord, the newborn King.” The song was originally written in French and loosely translated into English in the 1800s. However, the song of the angels, traditionally sung in a beautifully drawn-out fashion by carolers, is written in Latin (the language in which the Bible was most available for much of the history of Western civilization): “Gloria in Excelsis Deo!” means “Glory to God in the highest!”
Prayer “Fuel”: Based on the lyrics of Angels We Have Heard On High: Lord, the night of Your birth must have been an amazing night! Angels, Mary and Joseph, Shepherds were filled with the joy of Your coming. May each of us continue to be on bended knee worshiping You as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We pray that the Good News of the Gospel will spread rapidly throughout the Earth in the new year. Help us to be proclaimers of Your Message. (add your own prayers)SHOW US YOUR GLORY, LORD as WE CELEBRATE YOUR FIRST COMING AND AWAIT YOUR RETURN!
Think/Journal/Apply: Consider the lyrics of Angels We Have Heard on High and journal what the Lord is speaking.
